Community Resources

Below are a few community resources that may be available throughout Idaho.  Unfortunately, not all of the same programs exist equally throughout the state.  If you need other referrals, please do not hesitate to contact Idaho Virtual Academy’s school social worker, Alex Zamora, at azamora@idahova.org.

2-1-1 Idaho CareLine

State of Idaho’s information and referral program offering low-cost, sliding scale, or free health and human services (such as rental assistance, utility assistance, and free counseling)

Idaho Department Health and Welfare

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare provides various income-based services, such as food assistance (food stamps), temporary cash assistance, health insurance, and more.  The link below provides information on specific programs available, income guidelines, application, and application process.

Century Link Internet Basics

Century Link has a specialized program, Century Link Internet Basics, available to qualifying low-income households.  Eligibility requirements include:

  • living in service area;
  • not subscribed to Century Link internet in the last 90 days/current customer;
  • Does not have an overdue Century Link account;
  • follows current guidelines for Lifeline/TAP phone service programs

Computer for Kids, Inc.

A non-profit organization that recycles, refurbishes, and distributes computers to students K-12th and into college.  A youth completes an application, pays a small fee, and writes an essay as to why they need a computer.

Your Health Idaho

Your Health Idaho is the state of Idaho’s healthcare exchange.  Individuals may qualify for a tax subsidy, which can be applied to health insurance.  In-person assistors are also available to help individuals complete application process.  Complete list of assistors available on Your Health Idaho website.  Open enrolment  runs from November 1 through January 31.

Assurance Wireless

Federal Lifeline Assistance: Assurance Wireless is a federal Lifeline Assistance program brought to you by Virgin Mobile. Lifeline is a government benefit program supported by the federal Universal Service Fund.

Eligible Customers get a free cell phone plus 350 free minutes, and unlimited free text messages.

Qualifications: Enrollment is available to individuals who qualify based on federal or state-specific eligibility criteria. You may qualify if you are on certain public assistance programs, like Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). You can also qualify based on your household income.

Proof of Eligibility: You must provide proof of program participation or proof of income.

One Account per Household: The Lifeline Assistance program is available for only one wireless or wireline account per household. Separate households that live at the same address are eligible, including residents of homeless shelters and nursing homes. Residents with temporary addresses are also eligible.

Offer limited to new eligible customers who are approved for Lifeline service (varies by state) residing in selected geographic areas and is non-transferable. Offers not available in all states/areas.
