Letter from our Head of School

Dear Parents,

As a publicly-funded online charter school, the Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) makes it easy for you to be an active participant in your child's education. IDVA families are eligible to receive a loaner computer, complete curriculum, lesson planning programs, books and instructional materials, and the guidance of a highly qualified, licensed teacher. In short, everything you and your student need to access a 21st century excellent education.

The Idaho Virtual Academy uses the world-class K12 curriculum. With this innovative learning program, IDVA provides an education that meets or exceeds state standards, and students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through state standardized tests.

While IDVA has requirements for grade advancement, the K12 learning program allows families and teachers to work together to help elementary students maximize their academic potential. Middle and high school classes are more synchronous, but still allow for greater flexibility than is typically possible in traditional schools. IDVA provides additional programs and supports for students with special needs and students with gifts and talents.

But IDVA is not only about lessons; IDVA is about community. Elementary teachers organize school outings to museums, roller- and ice-skating parks, local zoos, and other interesting and enjoyable sites. Older students participate in a variety of activities, including clubs, journalism, dances, and statewide graduation ceremonies. Students of all ages participate in local, regional, and statewide events such as geography bees, spelling bees, and National History Day. There are even opportunities for students to connect with other students in virtual academies nationwide! Parents organize events and activities to support other IDVA parents in the challenges and rewards of publically schooling your children at home. These events bring families together and create real connections within the IDVA community.

We are proud of the school's achievements and our outstanding parent, community, and faculty support system. IDVA students continue to excel in all areas of academic achievement.

Not only are we proud of our school, we also believe that it is a profoundly good choice for families that are interested in getting actively involved in their children's education. We hope to welcome you soon to the Idaho Virtual Academy community.

Best regards,

Kelly Edginton
