Counseling Resources

At Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) by K12, counselors partner with you to support your child’s academic success, emotional well-being, and growth—from kindergarten through graduation. IDVA counselors and school social workers provide short-term individual counseling and group counseling. They also help connect students and their families to a variety of community resources, like the ones we’re sharing below.

Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA)

Are you striving to work ahead, or have you fallen behind?

Idaho Digital Learning Alliance provides online solutions to a variety of academic needs. IDLA courses are rigorous and taught by highly qualified teachers. IDLA also offers dual enrollment options.

If you are interested in taking an IDLA course, please review the IDVA course catalog https://www.idahodigitallearning.org and contact your counselor to discuss your options.

Registering for IDLA Courses

  1. Meet with your counselor. They can discuss the appropriate course and make sure you meet the requirements. Your counselor will register you for IDLA.
  2. Stay on top of email communication. Once registered, you will need to stay on top of all emails from IDLA in your personal email account. Your personal email account is different from your current IDVA/school email.
  3. Complete IDLA orientation. If this is your first time taking an IDLA course, you will need to complete an IDLA Orientation. Again, all communications will be in the IDLA platform and sent to your personal email address.
  4. Find advanced opportunities. IDLA overload courses cost $40 each. If you’re taking a dual enrollment course, it is $75 per credit. Advanced Opportunities will pay for this. Please complete this form.
  5. Register for dual enrollment courses. If your course with IDLA is for dual enrollment, it is your responsibility to register with the college offering the credit. Your teacher will email you with specific instructions. It is essential that you stay on top of your IDLA emails. You’re responsible for completing this information, and no one will remind you to do it.

IDLA Calendar

Students are responsible for keeping track of drop deadlines and finals.

Need to drop a dual enrollment course?

Always let your school counselor and Mrs. Mecham dmecham@idahova.org know when you’re dropping a course. This helps keep your records updated.

After informing your counselor, you must complete the official drop or withdrawal form directly through the college or university. This step is mandatory for your course to be officially withdrawn.

You must be aware of drop deadlines to avoid penalty. Failure to drop a dual enrollment course through the college could lead to an “F” on a student’s college transcript and impact future access to Advanced Opportunities (AO) Funds.

Resources for Mindfulness & Meditation

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is simply noticing what is happening right now.

Mindfulness helps us sustain our awareness more often and for longer periods. We can begin practicing mindfulness by adding many brief moments of awareness into our daily lives.

This awareness comes with lots of benefits.

Here are some of the good things mindfulness can bring to your life:

  • Mindfulness helps us create space between the emotions we have and the actions we use to respond to them.
  • Mindfulness helps us focus.
  • Mindfulness can make us feel better emotionally and physically.

If you need studies as proof to practice mindfulness, you’re in luck. Thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness, such as, decreased stress and anxiety, improved health, better sleep, improved focus and awareness, better problem-solving, improved impulse control, increased compassion and kindness, stronger relationships, altruism, and even higher life satisfaction – from blissfulkids.com
